Sheep farmers are being urged to plan to market their early lambs carefully after trade figures revealed an increase in the amount of imported chilled meat coming into the country.

Research by the English Beef and Lamb Executive (Eblex) into first quarter import figures for 2005 show an encouraging 16% year- on-year fall in the volume of sheep meat imports ( down from 36,437 tonnes in January to March 2004 to 30,482 for the same period this year.
