Summary
ALONG with its twin in Teesside, the North Tyneside power plant would be one of the biggest in Europe. Planning permission was given for the Teesport plant last month and it is expected to be up and running by 2012.
The Tyne Renewable Energy Plant (Tyne REP) would be exactly the same size and scale as the one planned for Teesside. The North Tyneside power plant is part of a larger plan by North Tyneside and Newcastle councils, with One North East, to regenerate 600 hectares of industrial land on the north bank of the Tyne.
