THE North East housing market appeared to accelerate during January, with prices jumping by 1.9%, according to new figures released yesterday. Positive regional trends were part of a UK-wide recovery showing a 1.2% overall price increase.

The imbalance between supply and demand pushed the value of property up for the ninth month in a row, meaning the average UK home cost pounds 163,481 - 8.6% more than in January 2009.
