I WAS very interested in the article headed "Upgrade for sub- standard toilets" (The Journal, September 17) where work was needed to upgrade public toilets in Newbiggin due mainly to the fact that the area is attracting more visitors.

Perhaps the same should be carried out on Holy Island, where the state of the public toilets - both gents and ladies - are nothing short of disgraceful.
