Summary

A NEWCASTLE-BASED green services company has launched an initiative as part of its operation in India to help remote tribal villages harness local and renewable energy sources.

Eaga has started the Renewable Energy Services for Acquiring Livelihood and Lifestyle (RES4ALL) programme, which is supported by the Indian Government and valued at more than 11 million Indian Rupees (pounds 1.65m). RES4ALL targets clusters of remote tribal forest villages in eastern India and provides capital investment to buy renewable energy generation equipment and machinery to start community-based micro enterprises. Enterprise committees manage the generation of energy through locally available renewable sources such as wood biomass, non-edible oil seeds, cattle dung and dry leaves.
