The region's beleaguered haulage industry is demanding Government action amid warnings rising fuel prices are threatening to drive more firms out of business.

Chancellor Gordon Brown was urged to introduce an 'essential users' fuel duty rebate for haulage companies to avoid them being further crippled by soaring diesel prices which have reached almost 94p a litre.
