Baggage handlers at Newcastle Airport have launched legal action in a bid to win compensation for injuries they claim to have suffered lifting holidaymakers' luggage as air traffic levels grow.

A Tyneside law firm has already secured almost pounds 5,000 in damages for one worker and is pursuing claims for six others who claim they sustained strain injuries to their backs, arms and shoulders as a result of lifting large suitcases and other heavy bags.
