THE Government last night backed calls for Rupert Murdoch to drop his BSkyB takeover bid as police came under fire for botching their original phone hacking investigation.

Prime Minister David Cameron's spokesman said the Conservatives would join Labour and the Lib-Dems in supporting a parliamentary motion today calling on the media tycoon's News Corporation to abandon plans to buy out the whole of the satellite broadcaster.
