Sunderland were no match for the more experienced Danish side and were deservedly beaten at the Academy of Light.

Sunderland should have led on 29 minutes when Jack Wanless had a close range effort blocked and Kevin Davison crashed the rebound against the bar from four yards. But it was the Danes who went ahead a minute before half-time when Sunderland keeper Ben Alnwick brought down an attacker and Jeppe Brandrup converted the penalty.
