THE long-serving major of a North East military regiment has been given the honour of meeting the Queen.

Major Simon Hutchinson, of the Reservist Army Unit, 72 Engineer Regiment, was invited to meet Her Majesty at a Garden Party after his squadron was awarded the Freedom of Gateshead this week.
