THE wife of a North East soldier killed in a suspected friendly fire incident in Afghanistan last night paid tribute to her husband who was "born a legend, died a hero".

Lance Corporal Christopher Roney, 23, from Sunderland, of 3rd Battalion The Rifles, died on Tuesday from wounds he sustained the day before in a firefight near Sangin in Helmand province.
