FOR thousands of years, thunderstorms and heavy rain have happened in the summer, every summer. It"s nothing new. Every year in winter we get a few inches of snow. That is nothing new. But whether it's rain and thunder or snow, you thoughtlessly trot out the word "chaos". Have you ever looked up the meaning in a dictionary? War and natural disasters are chaos. A thunderstorm is not. It causes some localised disruption.

If there is a thunderstorm with lightning and rain, it makes sense to stay in your car. Why in your report (The Journal, July 2) were people sheltering in cars described as terrified? Did anybody ask them if they were terrified? Look up the word terror, too.
