Fears Over Rights Act

Summary


CIVIL rights campaigners voiced concern yesterday after Justice Secretary Jack Straw signalled he was ready to "rebalance" the Human Rights Act amid claims it had become a "villains' charter".

Mr Straw, who introduced the Act when Home Secretary, said he had become frustrated with the way it was operating and suggested the rights contained in the legislation could be balanced with new responsibilities to obey the law and be loyal to the country.
