Families are gearing up for a third battle against a plan to dig 480,000 tonnes of coal from a site near a historic countryside estate.
Hall Construction, of Ferryhill, County Durham, has twice had its plans to opencast land at Byermoor Farm, near the National Trust's Gibside property in Gateshead turned down by Gateshead Council. But it has now appealed to Government inspectors, so the plan, which would also see 100,000 tonnes of fireclay dug from the 11-acre site over three years, could go to a public inquiry.See the full content of this document
