Summary
LAST week, on television, I debated the issue of Jack Straw's plea to Muslim women to remove their veil. The television audience was divided, about two thirds of them wanting to abolish the veil, a third of them saying that in a free country this wasn't permissible.
My own opinion was that Straw had been wrong to request individual women to remove their veils while in the confines of his surgery but absolutely right to bring the subject into the arena of public debate.See the full content of this document
