STEPS will be taken to prevent the traffic chaos that blighted a Northumberland county show last year, organisers have said.

The Border Shepherds Show in the remote Coquet Valley hamlet of Alwinton, Northumberland has been taking place for more than 150 years - only interrupted by world wars and foot and mouth outbreaks. Tomorrow, thousands of people from all over the region and the Borders are expected to converge on The Haugh for what is traditionally Northumberland's last agricultural show of the season. Last year about 7,000 visitors descended on the village, and parking problems caused a massive, mile-long traffic tailback towards Harbottle.
