LAST night should have been a proud and happy night for Emma Newton in her final school show. But instead Emma's fellow-pupils at Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham put on a poignant tribute to the popular A-level student killed 24 days ago when gales blew down a tree onto her car.

The 18-year-old budding stage star, seemingly destined for great things in dance and drama, died on Corchester Lane between Corbridge and Hexham - but her memory lives on.
