EFFORTS to free up lending to business appear to be working and the economy will start to grow again next year, said deputy governor of the Bank of England Charlie Bean on a North East visit yesterday.

But Mr Bean said it would still be a while before any signs of the effectiveness of the Bank of England's Quantitative Easing (QE) programme were visible.
