Police and paramedics in the North-East last night remained sceptical about Government claims that longer pub opening hours would "reclaim the streets" from binge-drinkers.

Licensing minister Richard Caborn insisted yesterday that letting clubs and bars serve drinks around the clock would bring an end to late-night flashpoints of booze-fuelled violence.
