Youngsters are being robbed of their childhood by formal education and should not be sent to school before the age of seven, says a senior Labour MP.
Barry Sheerman, chairman of the Commons Education Select Committee, said yesterday pupils would benefit from following the Scandinavian model in which formal schooling starts two years later than in Britain. Pupils should attend their first formal school at seven and specialise in academic or vocational courses from 14, he said.See the full content of this document
