ABOUT two years after being in the inaugural class to graduate the UK's first performance-based folk and traditional music course (at Newcastle University), Katie Doherty has made a name for herself on the circle of circuits she inhabits.
To date, the 24-year-old from Middlesbrough, has a debut album under her belt (Bridges was released at the end of 2007); has toured overseas as part of band Roll-A-Penny; performed alongside Kathryn Tickell; taken support slots at The Sage Gateshead as well as headlining her own evening there; and acted as musical director on a Royal Shakespeare Company production of As You Like It. Oh yes, and she also found time to complete an MA in music performance and composition and go on tour with Cloud Nine in a play called The Selkie.
