DURHAM chief executive David Harker is hoping England and New Zealand put on a show in tomorrow's first match of the NatWest Series - to remind the cricket world there is life beyond the Midlands, writes STUART RAYNER.

Despite some exciting limited-overs action, Chester-le-Street's Riverside ground is due to host just one Test before 2011 - and that against troubled Zimbabwe, currently expelled from the fiveday game. With Old Trafford not due to welcome England for a Test in that time either, the next few years will be grim up north for fans of cricket's most prestigious and popular format.
