More mobile phone masts are on the way in the North despite locals' health concerns, a council has warned, because of the risk of costly defeats at planning appeals.

Gateshead Council has already been told to pay a five-figure sum after a mobile phone firm successfully applied for costs when appealing against a decision to turn down a mast application.
