Sunderland City Council was fined pounds 10,000 yesterday after a 76-year-old man was badly scalded while in their care.

The case was brought following a Health and Safety Executive investigation into the scalding of William Swindle , a resident at the Tom Urwin sheltered housing complex in Silksworth, Sunderland. Mr Swindle was receiving home care support from Sunderland Council Social Services when he suffered serious scalds to his foot as the bath that had been run for him by a carer was too hot.
