A COUNCILLOR is at the centre of a row after his colleagues granted him permission to build a new bungalow in the countryside against the advice of their own planners.

The decision by Derwentside District Council became even more controversial after it emerged that councillor and businessman Thomas 'Tucker' Henderson had on three previous occasions had a similar application to build on the same site rejected, prior to him being elected to the authority as a Labour member in May 2003.
