Engineering and construction group Costain hailed the success of its recovery strategy today as it unveiled a 42pc rise in annual profits.

The Maidenhead-based company - which almost collapsed in the mid 1990s - said there was a recognition it had undergone a "major recovery". It was now looking at the possibility of resuming dividend payments to its shareholders.
