A COUPLE of weeks ago I wrote about creating basement rooms and the problem of stopping ground water dampness soaking through the walls. I mentioned that stopping the damp was just one of the difficulties in creating a basement room. Making the room habitable involves a lot more.
Unlike a simple storeroom, creating a new habitable room is more than banging up the walls and fitting a roof. Walls, floors and roofs must meet minimum standards for the room to provide adequate living conditions.
