Summary

WITH regard to your report on the Blyth wind farm ("Troubled wind farm faces its final blow", The Journal, January 15), rather than invalidating wind farms as a viable alternative to carbon-based energy production, I would like to thank the Blyth wind farm consortium for displaying the foresight to invest in renewable energy and for continuing to do so.

Over the next 50 years, if we don't significantly reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, our global temperature will rise by an average of 6C. This will destabilise climates and raise sea levels by 20ft. Out of a scientific community of thousands, no scientist disputes these predictions. The Blyth consortium, and those like them, are actively seeking ways to prevent global disaster. They are the environmental equivalent of heroic scientists seeking a cure for cancer. It is through their endeavour that we will ensure that our children's children will be in a position to enjoy our landscape.
