FRONTLINE policing in the North East could be hit by the multi- million pound bill to introduce locally-elected police commissioners, it was claimed yesterday.

Home Secretary Theresa May insisted the commissioners would "cost no more than police authorities", but the Home Office confirmed the pounds 130m to pay for commissioners would come from its budget for police forces.
