LAST week it was revealed that Ken Boston, the man who presided over the Sats marking fiasco, was in receipt of a pounds 328,000 pay deal which included a pounds 50,000 rent allowance, membership of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and pounds 30,000 worth of air travel annually for himself and his family.

Mr Boston is Australian. I could fill this newspaper with similar stories of executives in town halls and quangos across the land whose salaries dwarf those of our prime minister - and many of them are incompetent.
