Playing fields at a North college are having to be sold off to help finance a pounds 60m new education centre because of a shortfall in funding.

Nearly half the fields at Northumberland College, Ashington, are being put on the market so that the college can meet its share of a "learning village" scheme which will bring together school and college facilities on one site.
