Summary
TRACE element deficiencies can be a major cause of production loss but even a small loss spread over a large number of animals can be of great economic importance. Cobalt deficiency commonly causes ill thrift/pine and poor wool growth in weaned, growing lambs.
In ewes it has been associated with poor reproductive performance, poor milk production and high mortality rates in new born lambs. There is often a degree of conjunctivitis, severe anaemia and liver-related effects. If the deficiency continues it can result in death in three to 12 months. Cattle appear less susceptible than sheep but symptoms are similar.See the full content of this document
