Summary
AS GIGS go, escorting two Norwegian women around Tyneside pubs and breweries is rock 'n' roll. But to experience North East culture, history, society, enterprise and industry through our beer takes a lot of planning, timing and researching. No sooner was an itinerary finalised than it was torn up and started again.
Hanne Diana Bergheim won an internet competition run by the Norwegian arm of Visit Britain, the UK travel and accommodation agency, to write a short pub guide to Newcastle and Gateshead. This will encourage Scandinavian visitors - who have a fascination for our beer and pub tradition - to spend their leisure time with us.
