SUNDERLAND are on the verge of making Romanian Dorin Goian (pictured left) their first new signing this summer and only their third from the continent since Roy Keane was appointed manager nearly two years ago. But the deal has not been completed yet, with financial complications still to be resolved, writes STUART RAYNER.

The owner of central defender Goian's current club, Steaua Bucharest, revealed the hurdles that have to be overcome for a deal to be completed. "Goian is not for sale because I need money, but because he wants to leave and we have a youngster who I want to bring through to replace him," explained Gigi Becali yesterday.
