BOLTON Wanderers striker Kevin Davies has admitted even he was surprised to be preferred to Andy Carroll in Fabio Capello's latest England squad - but Sunderland's Darren Bent could be the main beneficiary after being described as an "important player for the future" by the Italian, writes STUART RAYNER.

Late last week there was speculation Newcastle United's Carroll (below) was set for his first international call up. Instead he was benched at Manchester City on Sunday, then overlooked by Capello the following day.
