THE FTSE 100 Index closed 52 points lower at 5247, following falls in the Far East.

The Chancellor, George Osborne, released an emergency Budget yesterday. For many investors, capital gains tax was the main concern prior to the announcement. The annual exempt amount of pounds 10,100 will continue to be in place and basic rate tax payers will continue to pay capital gains tax at 18%. However, capital gains tax for higher rate taxpayers has increased to 28%.
