AN army of public sector servants is costing the North East taxpayer more than pounds 42m a year in wages, The Journal can reveal.

Across the region 494 members of staff currently earn more than an MP's annual salary. That means hundreds of public sector workers are pocketing more than pounds 63,291 on an annual basis.
