THE walls of our homes are pretty fundamental structures. We've been constructing them out of bricks and stone since before the birth of Christ, so you would think we would have them sussed by now.

Unfortunately, I keep being asked to comment on some fault or another and the cause is frequently a failure to follow the basic rules. There are a number of critical factors that have to be borne in mind when you build a wall. It's not just a case of piling a few bricks on top of each other and sticking them together with dollops of mortar. It is a skill and needs to be done with care.
