Afew months ago the post offices on Lincoln Street, Prince Consort Road and Coatsworth Road, Gateshead, were closed and the franchise passed to the Eight til Ten supermarket on Coatsworth Road.

Within, and outside, the store there is no provision for the posting of letters and, despite displaying the Post Office sign twice on the street, one is required to negotiate shoppers and PO users alike to pass letters over the counter.

Surely, at a time when top PO executives are being handed millions in bonus payments, the public could be thought of by:

1) Erecting a post box outside the store

2) Making a facility at the post office section or entrance of the store for dispatching letters.
