LEISURE centres used by budding sports stars of the future are being threatened with closure as part of a shake-up of sports services.

Deemed underused and in need of considerable investment, six of Durham County Council's 19 centres are in the firing line as Government spending cuts demand savings of pounds 3.5m in leisure over the next four years.
