PEOPLE are being urged by a North East expert to become "citizen scientists" and regularly report sightings of birds in the region.

Newcastle University's Dr Philip McGowan, who is also director of the World Pheasant Association, is one of the researchers behind a study to help prevent today's common bird species from becoming threatened tomorrow.
