'Better Training Needed' to Help Self-Harming Children

Teachers and school nurses must be given better training to help them support children who self-harm, according to a report published yesterday.

Too many vulnerable young people do not seek help because they fear the reactions they may get for raising such a "taboo" subject, a panel of experts warned. In its second interim report, the national inquiry into self-harm among young people said current training for school staff was "patchy and inadequate".
