BEFORE solicitor Bert Gibson turned his talents to defending clients in the courtroom he spent more than a decade on the other side of the fence - chasing criminals around the North East as a police officer.
His days working as a fresh-faced young constable in the 1960s and early 1970s saw him handle everything from arresting drunken foreign sailors in Blyth, to handling fatal pit accidents and investigating murders and robberies in the heart of Newcastle.
