BELEAGUERED council bosses in Northumberland say they are "sailing into uncharted waters" as they face up to the task of finding pounds 60m in budget savings this year.

County Hall chiefs have strongly criticised the radical deficit- cutting demands placed on local government by coalition ministers - which will require cuts totalling pounds 110m in Northumberland over the next four years.
