THE seven-night Norwegian fjords cruise on board Fred. Olsen's MS Braemar started with laughter and good humour that was to continue throughout, despite running into a gale on the first full day at sea.

Being driven to join the ship, I was increasingly concerned we had taken a wrong turning. I insisted we stop until I could check we were indeed on the right track. It was not until after being treated to a long, cold look from an Edinburgh bus driver, coupled with the explanation, "It's just around the corner" that I heard the laughter from the car.

If I had just looked up before bothering the bus driver, I would have seen the traffic sign directly above our heads. As we turned right a mere 10 yards further along the road, there was the Braemar looming over Leith's Ocean Terminal.
