THE new super-councils planned for Durham and Northumberland will be up and running from April 1, 2009, the Government promised yesterday.
As the final plans are prepared to introduce a unitary authority replacing seven councils in Northumberland, and eight in Durham, the Government committed itself to elections in May next year. Some district councils in Northumberland and Durham are still wavering over whether to launch a legal challenge over the Government's decision to phase them out.See the full content of this document
