TWO MPs have criticised an ambulance service for pushing ahead for autonomy after a 999 patient died when a paramedic driver diverted to a depot instead of going to hospital because he had over run his shift.

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) is continuing its bid to become a Foundation Trust, giving it freedom from national control despite mounting criticism over the death of 69-year-old Ali Asghar.
