LEADERS of rank-and-file police officers reacted with fury to the teachers' pay award.
The Police Federation passed a vote of no confidence in Home Secretary Jacqui Smith after she staged their 2.5% award to keep it below the Government's 2% inflation target. Ministers argued they could not pay the full award as it risked fuelling inflation. The chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales, Jan Berry, said officers would now be absolutely furious the Government was prepared to breach 2% for teachers.See the full content of this document
