Tony Blair may have apologised for sending British troops into war on the basis of incorrect information, but Labour activists last night warned him of their unhappiness by backing calls to pull out of Iraq.

Senior ministers and party leaders spent hours thrashing out a deal with union barons to avoid an embarrassing defeat on the final day of conference, but a minority of rank and file members voiced their anger at the Prime Minister, demanding an early date for bringing troops back home.
