A BATTLE to stop opencast mining in one of the North's most beautiful landscapes has been taken to Parliament.

Gateshead Council has twice refused developers Halls Construction permission to extract 500,000 tonnes of coal from a site in Skons Park, near to the National Trust's Gibside property, but the company has appealed against the refusals.
